Sometimes I find myself so exhausted when I get home from work that I haven’t really had time to think about what I’m going to make for dinner or breakfast/lunch the next day. And I’m too tired to go to the grocery store to get ingredients.
It is for this exact situation that I recommend keeping a few key ingredients in your kitchen… so that you can whip something healthy up really quickly with what you already have lying around.
Here we go.
Kitchen staples:
Kitchen counter:
- Fresh fruit
- Olive oil
Fridge:
- A bag of fresh spinach
- A small punnet of cherry tomatoes
- A couple of single serve size chobani yoghurts (including “plain”)
- Eggs
- Jar of minced garlic
- Milk
Freezer:
- Loaf of sliced bread
Pantry:
- Polenta/powdered coconut mix (see Polenta porridge recipe here)
- Small single serve tins of flavoured tuna
- Small single serve tubs of pre-cooked brown rice
- Chilli flakes
- Paprika
- Salt and pepper
- Coffee
With these ingredients you will always have the means to make at short notice and without having to leave the house:
- Warm tuna rice salad (lunch/dinner)
- Polenta porridge (breakfast)
- Turkish eggs (breakfast)
- Soft boiled egg with soldiers (breakfast)
- Have fruit or yoghurt available as snacks
- Coffee
I also recommend making meals ahead of time and freezing portions but will discuss this in another post!
I think one of the biggest reasons people eat unhealthily is because it comes to meal time and they haven’t planned ahead so don’t have anything healthy to eat and reach for the unhealthy stuff! So being prepared is key ๐
